Finish the job at ground level.
A stump is the part of a tree removal everybody puts off. It's in the way of the mower, it sprouts, it invites insects, and it makes the yard look unfinished. Kastor Services grinds and removes stumps for homes and businesses across Rock County.
What's included
- Grinding of stumps of all sizes, below grade rather than flush to it
- Surface root grinding where roots are lifting turf or catching a mower
- Grindings and debris removed from the site
- Hole backfilled and graded so the area is level and safe to walk
- Area prepared for new turf, a new planting or a clean finish
- Utility-safe approach — we locate before we grind
How it works
We size it up
Diameter, species, how many, and how we get equipment to it. Access is often what drives the price more than the stump.
You get a written price
Clear scope: how deep, whether grindings leave the site, and whether the hole gets backfilled and graded.
We grind and finish
Ground out, cleaned up, filled and levelled. You should be able to walk across it and, if you want, seed it.
Why stumps are worth removing
A stump isn't just cosmetic. It causes ongoing problems on the property.
It's a hazard
A low stump in turf is invisible until someone trips on it or a mower deck finds it. Both are expensive in different ways.
It keeps growing back
Many species send up suckers from a cut stump for years. Grinding is what actually ends it.
It attracts pests
A decaying stump is a food source and a nesting site, and it sits close to the buildings you'd rather it didn't.
Where we work
Kastor Services is based in Rock County and removes stumps across it, for homeowners and commercial properties alike.
Common questions
How deep do you grind?
Below grade — far enough that the area can be backfilled, levelled and seeded. If you're planning to plant a new tree in the same spot, tell us, because that wants a deeper grind.
What happens to the grindings?
They can be hauled off, or left on site as mulch if you want them. We'll ask at the quote.
Can I plant grass over it afterwards?
Yes, once the hole is backfilled with soil and graded. Seeding straight into raw grindings doesn't work well, so plan on topsoil in the hole first.
What about utilities?
Locates get done before grinding. It's a short delay that avoids a very bad afternoon.
How is it priced?
By stump diameter, how many, and how hard the spot is to reach. Several stumps in one visit costs less each than one at a time. Estimates are free.

Tell us how many stumps and roughly how big, and we'll get you a free, no-obligation estimate.
